This can only be expected when you read other threads on this forum and see the local support for the pan handlers. You give money, even a nickel, to a local beggar or street kid, and you're just encouraging more to jump on the Queen street car, head east and infiltrate our neighbourhood.
The 'type' of pan handlers will become more diverse and creative with how they go about getting money, as we can see with the story you related.
At the end of the day: DO NOT GIVE MONEY TO HOMELESS PEOPLE & STREET KIDS WORKING THE BEACH. I PAY TAXES TO ONTARIO AND OTTAWA...THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO BE ADDRESSING THESE ISSUES.
Yet, I pay more and more taxes every year, meanwhile there are more and more homeless.
Yes, it's insensitive...but I want to keep the beach a place were I can take my son for a Saturday morning walk without having to teach him to step over drunks.

A man came to my door and told me he went outside for a cigarette and accidently locked himself out of his house. I asked him if he needed to use the phone because I would bring the phone out to him but he said no, he had already used the neighbors phone but was wondering if he could borrow some money to get to his parents' house to get the spare key. Normally I wouldn't have given money to a guy that shows up at my door but, I was in the Christams Spirit and it really played a big role in my generosity. He showed me his CAA card with his address, which is only 5 houses away. The guy told me he would be back to repay me and he never showed up. Just wanted to let people in area know not to fall for this scam!! I like to think that I'm not easily scammed but in this case I was!!
