It's a nice, hopeful sign to see that some local businesses are putting up posters and that some storefronts are no longer empty. Not many, but a couple. It's possible that it will be less of a ghost-town.

I've lived in cities from coast to coast in Canada and the U.S., and I see the evidence of business in such things as notices, posters, windshield flyers to be more likely to be present in a vital urban community.

I wonder if anyone else who has lived other places has noticed this?

I wouldn't get too excited.

Wait a few months, then look

Well, I have noticed a couple of conspicuous closing: Overkill for one, Second Cup for another! What's next? But I still have hope. I notice that those unfortunate businesses didn't try to create a community footprint any larger than their storefronts; something I feel is necessary.

Still hoping!..

I've heard so much about the Beaches being the quite the vibrant place, with shops, people etc. It seems a little dead to me. The posters and ads along the streets make it feel as though there is life in all the houses in the area. So many shops are empty or boarded up. It reminds me more of a ghost town than anything else here.

Yes, don't let the Christmas temp stores fool you. Retail (coffee notwithstanding) is on the decline.

It was encouraging the see BMO return... active banks are always a good sign.

Bunch of posters over the past month in the neighbourhood. And they've lasted longer than 24 hours! That's a first for the area!

The beaches leaves a lot to be desired. Shady landlords, nasty community members who aren't accepting of new community members unless they are English! If you're not English, you're not welcome here. It's like everyone from the UK flocks to the beaches. I wonder if it's because anywhere else in the city and they would, heaven forbid, be a minority! I don't even mind the British. I even have family that a British. But, to ostracize people who are new to the area, even Canadian, born and raised in Canada who are new to the area are treated as foreigners!

I do hope that the recent long life of posters is an indication of change, real change, in the area...a change towards acceptance and not just an indication of seasonal change. It would be ashame if all the old negative values of the times long gone by remain. Tradition is great, but not when it's a tradition of discrimination.
