Two Caucasian Teens Sought for Questioning.Toto, an 11-year old Cairn Terrier Mix, was stolen while leashed up beside IGA on Wednesday, June 30, at approximately 4:30pm.
Owner, Heidi Stanton, had stopped to pick up a few groceries at IGA on Queen Street East and Lee, tying her dog's leash to a nearby fence just as Beaches District dog owners do everyday while they shop at IGA.
" I was only in the store for 10 minutes, maybe even less. When I came outside my dog was gone. I was in shock."
As Stanton tried to calm her panic she began asking people nearby if they had seen anyone take her dog. " Then I ran inside the Honey Bee grocery store where they let me use their phone to call the police."
At that point people in the area banded together to help Stanton. One woman said she saw two white females around the age of 15 walking westbound on Queen Street East quickly with a small dog saying his name " Toto."
" I noticed the situation, " said the female witness, " because his name stood out. I thought it was cute." She added that this had taken place only minutes ago.
Stanton and the witness began running westbound on Queen Street East looking for the two teenage females and Toto.
Stanton asked people sipping drinks on Queens Street patios if they had seen a small dog with two girls and many had, offering additional information about the young girls and what they were wearing. More witnesses also noticed the situation because of Toto's unusual name, which the girls were saying out loud as they ran.
Stanton, who was unable to find her dog, is pleading for people to come forth who might have any additional information. Please call (416) 451-0621 or Constable Michelle Priem at (416) 808-5500.
