My daughter lives in the Beaches and we visit the Beaches Jazz festival every year. We were there on thursday night and were thoroughtly enjoying everthing and about 8.30pm my daughter who had been carrying my camera suddenly I noticed she was'nt carrying it. We had just come out of a store, so she ran back and a gentleman said he had noticed her drop it, and an older gentleman picked it up and was going to try and find her. She thought of the Police command post which was just up from where we were. Anyway she talked to the officers there and they checked all there posts and nobody had turned a camera in. She said to the officer that the camera was not an expensive one but the pictures were priceless. He took our name and address phone etc. and we thought we heard the last of it. We got home and about an hour later we got a follow up phone call from the police and he said that it still had not been turned in but he suggested strongly that she report it to a special number where all lost property would eventually land up if turned in, because he said (and I quote)in all of the City of Toronto there is nowhere like the Beaches for honest people, an uncanny comraderie among the people. Well we took this with a grain of salt but she took the number and did phone and all the particulars were taken. Not more than fifteen or twenty minutes later we got a phone call from the Command Post and he said a camera had been turned in and he asked her to describe it which was not difficult because my husband slways put a thick elastic band aroung the end because it had been dropped once and this made it work. The officer laughed when she said that and said, " Say no more it is definitely yours" and furthernore he asked what street do you live on and whe told hime and he said oh I know that one that's a very wide street I think I can get this van up there I will drop it off to you on my back to the station. Now you are talking about that big van you have down there " The Command Post" ! Can you imagine such a wonderful gesture this was, how much it made a family feel recovering some memorable pictures and also the lovely thoughts of such a nice person to take the trouble to hand it in. We don't know how to get in touch with the gentleman who handed it in, but we would like the people of the Beaches to know what a fine police force they have and caring just for a family's camera. If there is anyway you can thank all of them and thank-you for such a lovely party we enjoy every year, but this one we will remember with special thoughts and have the pictures to prove it. Thankyou soooo very much Yours sincerly Mrs Agnes Manning |
