Many women ask me why a program like FITMOM would benefit them more than a gym once they have had their baby. Being an ex gym addict myself I can clearly identify with the desire to go solo and head to the gym. That was until I had my first baby, Akua.
Taking my baby to the gym was often followed by my workout being cut short by the paging system. My son wasn’t as thrilled with the idea as I was.
I was usually five steps away checking on him rather then focusing on my workout.I found that going to the gym ended up being a waste of time.
Exercising with my baby came to me as a solution .
Exercising with Baby Facts
· Baby as progressive resistance.
Some moms think that exercising with their baby will ruin their workout. Not true. When structured properly, a baby can not only enjoy the workout itself, but also give the added resistance needed to help mom increase her fitness level and burn calories. As the baby gets bigger they provide progressive resistance just like a gym can.
·The FITMOM Network.
Connecting with other moms in a safe environment is not only important, but fostered in a mom ad baby specific program.
·Infant stimulation.
Babies of exercising mothers tend to be better stimulated. This can actually be enhanced in the forum that fosters exercising together with your baby by adding songs. Babies who are better stimulated also tend to sleep better.
· Not ready for a Babysitter.
Not having to leave your baby with an unknown babysitter (often unlicensed) is a great comfort to most new moms.
· Mom and Baby Bonding.
Exercising with your baby can be a great time to bond with your baby though touch and face to face interaction with exercises made just for moms and babes.
· Valuable Information:
An environment especially for moms can be more than just a fitness class. It is a resource for other programs, support groups, child development and education groups and so much more.
· Safe Environment:
Lets face it, new moms have unique needs. A gym setting with six packs and spandex keep you focused on body image in what could be an unhealthy way. A mom specific environment creates safety for women at different places focusing on level of fitness over body image. In other words, setting goals within the context of motherhood. “After all motherhood is a launching pad for greatness.”

Andrea Page started FITMOM CANADA in April of 2000. A personal trainer who was a single mom at the time, she needed to find solutions for fitness that included baby and didn’t compromise her workout. FITMOM was that answer.
What started as one class in Downtown Toronto is now a multi-faceted program that serves many communities and can be licensed by qualified people who want to provide the program to their area.
